Garage door safety is important especially since they’re large and heavy. In other words, they can present safety threats if not properly maintained or operated. Although there are a few simple steps you can do to keep you and your family safe.

1. Safety Sensors

All garage door openers have built-in safety features, including safety sensors and reversing mechanisms. They’re designed to detect if a person or object gets in the path of the door opening or closing. The safety sensor will stop when it begins closing then it will reverse back to the original position.

2. Door Safety

It can be easy to not always check to make sure the area around the garage door is clear before opening or closing the door. Children may be tempted to grab onto the door as it’s going up or try to slide underneath it as it’s going down. It is important to teach them that garage doors are not toys and can be dangerous. To maintain garage door safety, we recommend to not store mobile controls out of their reach and keep keyless codes secret.

3. Clear the Area

When you open or close your garage door, be sure to always check to make sure the space is clear. A garage door safety tip is to be especially careful to keep fingers out of tiny openings between the garage door panels. That way when the door starts moving, there will be no accidents.
