The International Door Association has designated June as garage door safety month. The purpose is to raise awareness about the safe use of your garage doors. This is important because garage doors are the largest and heaviest moving object in most people’s home. Over 75% of injuries caused by garage doors occur in a person’s home.
Here are four things you can do to keep your garage door in good shape to protect you and your family.
1. Clean Your Garage Door
To help your garage door looking new, it is recommended to regularly wipe down your garage door with warm water and mild all-purpose cleaner. Built-up dirt and grime can quickly degrade the finish of your door and cause it to deteriorate quickly.
2. Lubricate Moving Parts
Overtime, the moving parts on your garage door such as the hinges, rollers, tracks and springs can rub together. If this happens, it can prevent the door from opening and closing. Too much friction can also increase strain on your garage door opener. In other words, it can lead to mechanical issues. Therefore, the functionality of your garage door will improve if you evenly coat the moving parts of your garage door with garage door lubricant.
