Everyday, people are using their garage doors to enter and exit our home. Dust, dirt and cobwebs can make their way on a garage door and moving parts quickly. Unfortunately, we often forget about simple garage door maintenance. In other words, how to clean your garage door. What is the proper and most effective way?
Steps to clean your garage door
1. Wash With Mild Soap
First step is to wash a garage door with a mild soap. For example, a mild liquid soap used to wash your dishes. Liquid car wash soap will also work. However, some liquid car washes already have wax mixed into the soap. We don’t recommend using any strong detergents as this can damage the paint or finish on the garage door.
2. Use Bleach If Needed
Overtime, some garage doors may need a deeper cleaning than others. If a garage door needs a deeper cleaning, bleach can be used. Furthermore, before applying the bleach, it’s important to mix the bleach with water. Afterwards, grab a sponge and scrub thoroughly.
3. Rinse away the soap
After scrubbing the garage door, gently rinse the door by using a hose. Most importantly, pay attention to the water pressure applied. Too much water pressure can damage the finish on the garage door. Once the garage door is completely scrubbed and rinsed, wait for the surface to dry. Then it’s on to the next step!
4. Shine By Using Wax
Last but not least, wax can be used to seal and protect the garage door. Waxing the door will protect the surface long-term as well as repel any dirt. Before applying the wax, be sure the garage door is completely clean and dry. This will ensure better results and a long lasting door. Be sure to cover all parts of the garage door including the bottom and inside with liquid wax. Applying wax to the bottom and inside will help further protect the surface from the same dirt and dust particles.
